In an approach that will go some way toward aligning the infrastructure #consenting regime with the remainder of the #planning system on #BNG, HM Treasury have today confirmed:
New Nationally Significant Infrastructure Projects in England, such as future #transport and #energy projects, will need to provide #netgain in #biodiversity and #habitats - through an amendment to the Environment Bill.
HM Treasury were responding to the #DasguptaReview but move is something that has been anticipated by those of us working on #DCO for some time... It will be interesting to see how approach on net gain could be "tailored to the needs of major infrastructure projects where necessary"... a 'one size fits all' approach on policy is unlikely to be workable given the diverse nature of #NSIPs.
